Join the Campaign

Yes, we would love for you to get involved! Our Contraction & Convergence campaign is seeking to link universities across the UK on the hot topic of C&C. As students, we aim to influence the government, as well as our own universities and communities.

Our goals are to:

1. Have the NUS pass a motion in support of Contraction & Convergence.

2. Have 30 UK Student Unions pass motions in support of Contraction & Convergence.

3. Have 2000 people sign the Contraction & Convergence petition to the UK government.

4. Set-up an active web Contraction & Convergence portal.

5. Have people write to their MPs, urging them to act on Contraction & Convergence.

As you can see, this is an incredibly exciting project, and there are opportunities to get involved at many different levels. Below you will find a number of steps, ranging from small to large, on how you can get involved!

PERSONAL STEPS:

-Educate yourself! There is a lot of information about Contraction & Convergence available online. Check out our “Web Links” section for some useful suggestions. Talk to your friends, neighbors, family, and teachers, and professors about Contraction & Convergence! Attend public meetings, engage your community!

-Join our mailing list for local and international updates about Contraction & Convergence in general, and the Climate Justice Project!

-Sign a petition to Tony Blair, encouraging him to adopt policies of Contraction & Convergence and carbon rationing:

-Pledge your support (link) to the Climate Justice Project by selecting which actions you’re planning to take.

GROUP STEPS:

Get your university involved! This could involve starting up an environmental group, or working with a group you’re already involved with, or it could even just be a small core of committed individuals.

-Visit “Campaign Resources” to sign up for an informational pack with our forthcoming publication, an introductory welcome, a motion to be passed by your student union, an FAQ sheet, a press release.

-Get your student union to pass a motion in support of Contraction & Convergence. A sample motion is available at “Campaign Resources” or in the pack you can receive.

-Get your organisation involved! We are looking to forge alliances with all sorts of groups around the nation who are interested in Climate Change issues. Whether you’re a social justice group, faith-based, Contraction & Convergence, or anything else, please be in touch! (Link to Team Members)
